Earlier this month I covered Naomi Punk on Wooozy. I first heard of the name while I was still in Brooklyn, but it was not until my friend Zaza told me they play awesome live that I decided to give them a listen. So I went to their bandcamp, there was only one album but all the songs from that album were free to stream, with a link that directed you to buy the vinyl record. It was out in April but seemed that nobody actually knows about it - You couldn’t find a single piece about them on pitchfork, stereogum or whatever hype machine out there.

Since then a little bird told me that they were signed by Captured Tracks, one of the most elite labels these days. In other words, they are on their way becoming a buzzband and their albums will sell out. I could sense the hype is being built, and I was pretty curious about when it would happen and what it would lead to.

So today, there’s an official announcement out from Captured Tracks, right after that, pitchfork post a short news saying Captured Tracks gonna reissue their debut LP and the first single is here blah blah blah. I went to their bandcamp again. The record purchase link was replaced with “LP IS SOLD OUT PLEASE WAIT PATIENTLY”. Most songs were taken down. I listened to the only two remained, but they were apparently too short to remind me of any feeling I had while I was digging the whole album weeks before. And I couldn’t find it anywhere else, since it’s “sold out”. Oh yes, I once thought about scheduling an interview with them, not sure if this is still doable since not too many buzzbands bother to do an interview with an indie music blog in China… What a difference a month can make.

The hype is finally out there, while I am the one not prepared.

Update: The reason why the debut LP sold out is because Captured Tracks bought all the remaining copies and I guess that’s essential when building the hype.
